Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who contributed to the making of our film KAUNIARO – DANCE FOR LOVE OR KILL AND DIE, and who helped bring the horrors and the beauty of life among the Indigenous people of Kauniaro in the Nuba Mountains into the hearts of the first audiences at its Slovenian premiere at the Festival of Slovenian Film in Portorož.

Our thanks also go to all of you who voted for the film, awarding it an overall score of 4.91 out of 5.00 and thereby securing it the Vesna Award for Best Film as voted by the audience.

We met so many sensitive, compassionate, generous-hearted and kind-spirited people at the premiere and the awards ceremony. We embraced and kissed one another, and in those encounters we felt a renewed sense of hope, a new determination, and an even stronger resolve to carry on.

Whether or not politicians and humanitarian organisations, to whom this film is also addressed, decide to hasten to the aid of the most innocent and vulnerable among those portrayed in the film — the children, women and elderly — we have decided to begin collecting voluntary donations ourselves.

We are raising funds to address the needs that the people featured in the film themselves identify as the most urgent:

1. To support schools in Kauniaro.

2. To provide drinking water for the people of Kauniaro.

3. At the same time, we are beginning to raise funds for a new documentary film. It will bring to light our own testimonies of the extermination of other peoples in some of the most isolated, inaccessible and besieged regions of Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan. We have been following the plight of these communities for decades, and they, too, are crying out for help.

These include the Komoganze in the Blue Nile region, the Katchipi and Ngatomi peoples along the Ethiopian border, and the Toposa along the Kenyan border.
