28. April.2012: URGENT APPEAL! Eight people already died from hunger in Blue Nile
Khartoum’s military strategy designed for engineering famine in Blue Nile region as well as the deliberate deny to humanitarian assistance to relief IDPs trapped within the region has dragged the crisis in the region toa critical point. Reports from Baw Countyyesterday showed that (8) people have already died from hunger in Soda and Geego with the expectation of many lives will be lost unless humanitarian assistance reached the area within the coming days.
The death from hunger reported yesterday has raised the alarm; a catastrophic famine has engulfed the whole area and that hundreds thousands of live are at risk. We appeal to the international community to save the lives of civilians in the region with an immediate delivery of aid across the border without Khartoum permission and before the rainy season makes any movement harder and more costly. And since the area entered this humanitarian crisis in late march 2012 IDPS lost hope and only death is awaited.
Once more the humanitarian coordination looks forward for that immediate humanitarian assistance.
